It's a challenge for Australia to break new ground.

The top summits have long been mastered.

We're talking about the unit that has won seven Cricket World Cups, along with an additional six T20 titles, and earlier maintained over three years unbeaten in 50-over cricket.

The alternative records, those for the record chasers, are the only things left for a team that has accomplished all there is.

That it took up to Sunday's success by three wickets over India for them to complete their first ODI chase over 300, regaining their record for the largest in the female 50-over format, is, frankly, a compliment to the pitchers that have sported the yellow jersey over the past 50 years.

It is hard for their batsmen to hold a record if not provided the chance.

Finally, the result of Australia giving up 330 runs was leader Alyssa Healy getting a chance to deliver her latest masterpiece.

Initially recognized as the teenage relative of famous ex Aussie wicketkeeper Ian, she first played in 2010 after her nation couldn't capture either of the T20 or ODI World Cups conducted earlier and has experienced everything through 15 trophy-laden years since.

A T20 championship victory came three months after her first appearance and seven world titles have resulted from 10 attempts across formats.

The gritty keeper was present as well in Derby in 2017 when a semi-final defeat by India temporarily stopped the successful run.

That loss "motivated us to reconsider our benchmarks," Healy commented earlier.

At the following one-day championship in New Zealand, Healy hit 170 against England in the championship match and was awarded tournament MVP. She made sure her country would not fail again.

If this recent magnificent innings exceeded that prior achievement remains open for discussion.

Some will argue the argument supporting final game tension. Some might respond with the test that comes when pursuing an unprecedented total and a raucous India-supporting crowd of 20,000.

What is certain is this century was much more difficult to predict.

The New Zealand onslaught in 2022 occurred when she led the batting statistics, but this innings followed six innings in India since the start of last month in which she had failed to pass 30.

"For those following me in the nets, it's been a frustrating experience because it appeared my form was missing completely," commented Healy.

"However when you take the field, your fighting spirit kick in and you simply focus on the competition."

Healy's competitiveness has consistently been her key asset - and an invaluable trait in replacing legendary former captain Meg Lanning.

She was challenged by India's rising star Kranti Gaud in the previous month's ODI series, out to the young fast bowler in all three matches, but on this occasion it simply offered Healy's spark.

A single came off the opening delivery and from there the batsman was on her way.

"An opportunity to take the field and engage in competition with her and simply enjoy myself that way, sort of got me going," said Healy.

She achieved fifty in 35 balls - her fastest at the global tournament - and her hundred in 84 balls as she flogged anything short, hitting 21 fours and three big hits.

By the time she was removed the team needed 66 more at run per delivery - a manageable total now requiring a leisurely stroll.

"Chasing 330 runs is unfamiliar ground so I'm pleased we have the confidence to accomplish that now," stated Healy further.

"Ideally we won't need to repeat it but, if necessary, we believe we can succeed."

These statements will be the final thing Australia's opponents at this tournament want to hear.

During the last week a feeling they will triumph from any situation has become more firm - this success following success over Pakistan by 107-run victory despite sitting at 76-7 at a certain moment.

Next Australia play Bangladesh before an encounter with traditional opponents England in Indore in 10 days, by which point a semi-final berth may likely be confirmed.

It was in the semi-finals they left the previous year's T20 World Cup in a shock defeat by South Africa - a game Healy was absent due to damaged tissue in her foot as she guided Australia for the first time at a major tournament.

Such is her determination, she later said she regretted not playing despite the injury.

But while she afterwards confessed those physical issues have delayed plans to retire, this World Cup is likely to be her last as captain in one-day cricket and she is still to achieve an international tournament as skipper.

Victory in India would bring her to the top of her final mountain.
